China Pharmaceutical University(CPU), originally the National Pharmaceutical School founded in 1936, is China’s first independent school of pharmacy and it has been one of the best universities of pharmacy in China with a wide variety of specialized areas. It is one of the “211 project” key universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China.

Competitiveness

The university spirit is “strict, practical, creative and cooperative.” CPU graduates are devoted in serving the society, and enjoy a high reputation from employers and the society. The employment rate tops among the higher institutions in China, about 99.8% for undergraduates, 100% for post-graduates, and 99.33% for vocational school students. The rate fluctuates little to the economic environment.

Campus

CPU is located in Nanjing , the "ancient capital city of six dynasties" in China and is composed of two campuses including Xuanwumen campus located in downtown Nanjing and Jiangning campus in the southeast outskirt of Nanjing.

Schools and Departments

CPU consists of 6 schools (School of Pharmacy, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, School of life science and Technology, School of International Pharmaceutical Business, School of Continuing Education, and School of Higher Vocational Education), 4 independent departments (Dept. of Basic Sciences, Dept. of Foreign Languages, Dept. of Social Sciences, and Dept. of Physical Education), and 5 key labs and centers at state or provincial levels.

Faculty Statistics

Among the 530 faculty members, 2 are academicians (members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering), and more than 40% have advanced academic titles. So far, the university has undertaken more than 70 research projects financed by the State Key Programs Foundation, and more than 300 research projects financed by the State Natural Sciences Fundation and the State New Drug Research Foundation. There are also fundings from other national, provincial and municipal departments. Many projects have reached the international level and filled the gaps in the country’s pharmaceutical field.

Programs

CPU offers 20 bachelor’s degree programs, 29 master’s programs, 24 doctoral programs and 6 post-doctoral fellowship programs. There are three national key disciplines: Pharmaceutical Chemistry , Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics and one provincial key discipline--Modern Traditional Chinese Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy.

Featured Programs

Approved by the Ministry of Education, CPU established “Basic Pharmaceutical Science Rotation Class” and “National Bio-science and Technology Rotation Class”. The Biological Technology Class is co-established with Nanjing University. The class has been recruiting students for 10 years and has cultivated a considerable number of high-quality talents. The class adopts a rolling system. Every year, about top 60% students are recommended for their master’s and doctoral study.

Student Statistics

At present, CPU has 12,852 full-time students, including 114 international students from more than 40 countries. CPU is the only institution that is authorized by the Ministry of Education to admit full-time pharmacy students, continuing education students and senior visiting scholars from overseas. It is also one of the higher educational institutions in the mainland for students from Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan.

International

The university is also active in international academic exchanges. It has made academic exchange agreements with more than 30 higher education institutions in different countries and regions of the world, including Japan, the United States, UK, Australia, Italy and Hong Kong. In addition, it maintains academic relationships with research institutions and universities in more than 40 countries and regions

Historical Development

Akdeniz University was founded in 1982, and incorporated the higher education institutions already established in Antalya, Burdur and Isparta. In 1992 the units of Akdeniz University which were located outside Antalya were transferred to Süleyman Demirel University, and in 2006 the Burdur Veterinary Faculty of Akdeniz University was transferred to Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.

Having started with the 4 Institutes, 8 Faculties, 1 School, 1 Vocational School and 5 Research and Application Centres which were established in or before 1992, Akdeniz University is now taking rapid and determined steps towards becoming a world class university which is capable of making a significant contribution to the world of science with its current complement of 17 Faculties, 7 Institutes, 5 Schools, 13 Vocational Schools, and 39 Research and Application Centres.

The list of Units opened between 2008-2012 comprises 3 Institutes (The Prof. Dr. Tuncer Karpuzoğlu Institute of Organ Transplantation, the Institute of Educational Sciences, and the Mediterranean Civilisations Research Institute), 5 Faculties (Alanya Faculty of Engineering, the Alanya Faculty of Education, and the Faculties of Dentistry, Letters and Tourism), 1 School (Ayşe Sak School of Applied Sciences) and 3 Vocational Schools (Finike Vocational School, Gazipaşa Mustafa Rahmi Büyükballı Vocational School, and the Vocational School of Justice).

COLLEGE POLICIES Student Affairs Personal & Career Counselling

Although members of staff always have the good will to help students whenever they can, the students may have a problem that needs the assistance and expertise of a trained professional in areas such as relationship problems or personal problems like stress, anxiety, uncertainty about choices or any other case that is affecting the students’ well being and/or their studies.

Student counselors provide support and advices helping the students develop independence, and find their way through their difficulties. Two counselors who are trained in the psychiatric field with privately owned practices are under agreement with the College, and will accept any students who feel they would benefit from personal counseling. These visits are free of charge, as long as they have proof of student status at the College.

ACCOMODATION

Ledra College knows how important it is to feel safe and comfortable when you are away from home, that is why we aim to provide you with high quality accommodation conveniently situated within walking distance from the college, in safe, clean residential areas where you can go home at the end of your college day and either study, have friends over or just relax.

The College advises International students who will not be using College accommodation to find suitable housing within a short distance from the College to avoid transportation expenses. The accommodation and living expenses mentioned above have been calculated on the basis of standard college accommodation with at least two students sharing one bedroom. The usual living arrangements for students are typically 6 students sharing a 3-bedroom furnished apartment/house or four students sharing a 2-3 bedroom apartment house with kitchen, sitting room and bathroom.

Electricity and water is usually included in the college accommodation rent. The expenses shown above aim to provide you with a general guideline of the average monthly and annual expenses you are most likely to have. However, expenses like food, leisure, clothing and transport may vary a great deal depending on the needs and life style of each student.

The above is an approximate calculation estimated for 4 students sharing a two-bedroom apartment. These figures may vary according to student needs and quality of life.

General Admission Requirements

Ledra College welcomes applications from people of varied social, educational and cultural backgrounds who through their active participation in the Educational process, will distribute in making Ledra College a dynamic place to learn. In general, all applicants must have completed a secondary (high) school education or the equivalent of twelve years of schooling or a BTEC National Diploma or equivalent to be considered for admission.

The criteria for admission to Ledra College have been prepared to enable the Office of Admissions to select students who have potential to produce college-level work and to place students in courses and programs appropriate to the students’ preparation, in an effort to help them successfully realize their academic potential. Final admission decisions are completed in September – October for the Fall Semester and in December- January for the Spring Semester.

The Office of Admissions may give permission for late application to some local students. Due to visa requirements it might be very difficult to do the same with international students

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

All applicants must have completed a secondary (high) school education or twelve years of schooling to be considered for admission. Ledra College recognizes a strong academic performance at high school level as the primary determinant for college level success. When making an admissions decision, the College is interested in applicants with a solid high school record, evidence of extra-curricular activities, a high level of commitment and potential for personal growth.
